Objectives
The programme introduces modern telecommunications technologies through hands-on installation, testing and diagnostic activities on TV, telephony and wired/wireless data network systems.
- Installing communication infrastructure: design and installation in buildings according to customer requirements.
- Inspection and commissioning: functional checks and measurements on communication systems.
- Computer networks: getting familiar with networked systems and device integration.
- Configuration: integration into existing networks and upgrades.
- Troubleshooting: diagnosing and fixing faults in communication systems.
Aims
Built on the modular BST® – BuildingSystemsTrainer platform, the lab enables realistic and safe simulations in residential, business and training settings.
- TV systems: DVB-S/DVB-T/DVB-C reception and distribution and SCR systems with multiswitches and measuring instruments.
- Telephony: analogue, ISDN, VoIP/SIP and DECT with PBXs, gateways and web-based programming.
- Data networks: Cat.7 structured cabling, Wi-Fi, VLAN and PoE with smart switches and remote management.
- Faults & diagnostics: fault simulators, LAN testing and RF receiver/generator for maintenance.
- Devices and exchanges: installation and configuration of IP terminals, Android video phones and gateways.
Conclusion
By the end of the programme, students will be able to:
- Design and cable Cat.7 networks and VLAN segmentation for voice/data/video services.
- Install and commission satellite/terrestrial TV systems (DVB-S/T/C, SCR).
- Configure analogue/ISDN telephony and VoIP/SIP systems with QoS and PoE.
- Carry out testing and diagnostics with professional instruments and fault simulators.
- Work safely and in compliance with regulations on real and simulated systems.
The BST® lab develops practical, analytical and problem-solving skills, opening the way to careers in the ICT, electrical and building services sectors.
