About this solution

Learning Objectives

  • Fundamental laws of electrical engineering
  • How to use an oscilloscope and a multimeter
  • Passive components in DC circuits
  • Capacitors and inductors in AC circuits
  • Three-phase current systems
  • Voltage-, temperature- and light-dependent resistors
  • Semiconductors
  • Operational amplifiers

Lab Objectives

The lab aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of electrical engineering through modular instrumentation and interactive teaching panels. The main objective is to develop theoretical and practical skills in analysing, assembling and understanding direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) circuits, with particular attention to safety, measurement and the application of the fundamental laws of electrical engineering. Students will acquire skills in using electrical and electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, transformers, motors, operational amplifiers), reading circuit diagrams and building real circuits with the plug-in system. They will also be able to take measurements with multimeters and oscilloscopes, interpret data and identify how circuits behave under different operating conditions.

Educational Aims

The learning pathway is structured on several levels, enabling students to:

  • Understand the fundamental theoretical concepts of electric current, voltage, resistance, power and energy.
  • Apply Ohm’s and Kirchhoff’s laws to direct and alternating current circuits.
  • Analyse and build resistive, capacitive-inductive and three-phase circuits, rectifiers and semiconductor circuits.
  • Develop operational and experimental skills by assembling circuits directly on the protected panel and using professional measuring instruments.
  • Develop logical-deductive thinking by analysing experimental results, comparing them with theoretical data and interpreting anomalies.
  • Gain awareness of electrical safety, thanks to the protection systems built into the panels, guided tests and a structured methodology. This lab encourages active learning, operational autonomy and collaborative work, providing an essential foundation for further study in technical and engineering fields.

Conclusion

The “Principles of Electrical Engineering” lab is a complete and effective learning experience for mastering the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering and electronics. The modular panel system allows students to build skills progressively, concretely and safely. By the end of the pathway, students will be able to understand, build and analyse electrical circuits, apply the fundamental laws, use measuring instruments correctly and work safely. The hands-on approach stimulates curiosity, strengthens motivation and fosters experiential learning, promoting solid technical preparation that can be applied both in further study and in a professional setting. This solution includes technology systems that support inclusion and equal opportunities through the use of innovative teaching methods. It is designed to promote active and collaborative learning.
