About this solution
Objectives
1. Configure and commission a KNX installation
Students learn to design, address and set the parameters of KNX devices using the ETS6 environment and experiment boards, simulating real control scenarios for lighting, blinds, climate and custom scenes.
2. Diagnose and solve network problems
The system includes functions for identifying configuration errors, reading KNX telegrams and assessing bus status, and also supports debugging via IP gateways and touch panels.
3. Integrate advanced automation devices
Modules for RGBW LEDs, roller shutters, dimmers, weather sensors and IoT devices (Alexa, Hue, Netatmo) are covered, giving a complete overview of modern, connected automation.
4. Manage technical documentation and maintenance
Each project involves planning, creating addresses, assigning communication objects and writing technical documentation, with practical tests on device maintenance and updating.
Educational Aims
1. Provide operational skills in KNX automation
The course offers hands-on experience in setting up, programming and managing KNX home automation systems, using standardised training panels and real devices for certifiable installations.
2. Explore the intelligent functions of buildings
Through programmable scenarios (lighting, heating, ventilation, access control), students are encouraged to work on logic design and the optimisation of energy consumption using automatic functions and environmental sensors.
3. Integrate heterogeneous systems and IoT networks
The lab prepares students to integrate the KNX bus, DALI interfaces, IP gateways and cloud-based devices, laying the foundations for interoperability between systems, visualisations and voice assistants.
4. Prepare for certification and professional design
The training package is in line with the criteria of KNX and ETS certifications and European standards, providing the skills needed to work in smart buildings and industrial automation.
