About this solution
Objectives
1. Analyse photovoltaic systems
Configure and understand the structure of photovoltaic systems, and record the U/I characteristics of solar cells and modules at varying tilt angles and simulated irradiance levels.
2. Experiment with different off-grid configurations
Build stand-alone PV systems with batteries, charge controllers and inverters to run DC and AC loads. Study the interaction between components and their response to faults.
3. Explore the impact of shading and diodes
Investigate the electrical behaviour of cells under partial shading or breakage, testing the effect of bypass and string diodes in maintaining efficiency.
4. Carry out professional field measurements
Use instruments such as power quality analysers, solar meters and I/V testers to carry out tests under real conditions and compare the results with the manufacturer’s STC data.
Learning Aims
1. Link the theory and practice of renewable energy
Students apply physical and electrical concepts directly to photovoltaic technologies, strengthening their understanding through lab experiences with real instruments.
2. Develop technical skills in the PV sector
Using charge controllers, inverters and digital instruments allows students to become familiar with the design, commissioning and maintenance of PV systems.
3. Assess efficiency and sustainability
By analysing yields, installation conditions and characteristic curves, students can critically assess the energy behaviour of the systems.
4. Prepare for practical work on real installations
The package includes practical supports for system assembly, wiring and connections, allowing students to practise in conditions similar to real operating ones.
