About this solution
Lab objectives
The lab has been designed to offer an advanced, portable technology platform, with the aim of:
- Introducing students to modern industrial robotics, using an ABB collaborative robot in a safe, professional environment.
- Developing practical and theoretical skills in robot programming, integrated automation and the use of machine vision systems.
- Supporting the learning of key Industry 4.0 concepts by integrating fieldbus, digital I/O signals, 3D simulation and visual recognition.
- Enabling realistic industrial scenarios, such as vision-guided Pick&Place applications, through a complete, flexible and certified system.
- Giving teachers up-to-date tools for lab-based teaching and giving students learning pathways that count towards work-based learning (PCTO).
Educational aims
The lab’s educational aims focus on developing technical and professional skills through an approach that integrates theory, simulation and practice. In particular, the lab makes it possible to:
- Understand the structure and operation of the ABB IRB 1300 robot, with a focus on kinematics, safety and control.
- Learn the RAPID language and the programming of movements, sequence logic, operating cycles and digital signal handling.
- Use RobotStudio software for virtual simulation of robotic cells, offline debugging and industrial layout design.
- Acquire skills in automation with the PROFINET fieldbus and in handling I/O boards for interfacing with plant systems.
- Integrate a 2D vision system for object recognition, spatial location and triggering image-guided operations.
- Carry out hands-on activities with Pick&Place and vision demo kits, applying real methods in a protected environment (thanks to the portable box).
- Support teachers with video lessons and structured courses, and guide students through basic and advanced robotics work-based learning (PCTO) pathways.
Conclusion
The lab with the IRB 1300, portable box and integrated 2D vision is a complete, professional training solution, ideal for teaching industrial robotics in secondary schools, ITS and higher technical institutes.
Thanks to its modularity, CE-certified equipment and integrated teaching tools (simulator, demo kit, camera, teacher training), it enables active, interactive learning in line with the real needs of Industry 4.0.
This training offer not only introduces students to emerging technologies but also supports career guidance, the development of transferable skills and the transition from school to work, through a consistent, up-to-date offer that meets the highest educational and technological standards.
