About this solution
Learning Objectives
Legal provisions. Understanding rating plate data. Description of device protection classes and assignment of symbols. Description of device protection types and assignment of symbols. Description of device insulation classes and assignment of symbols. Checking the suitability of selected devices for the installation location. Selecting and using measuring and test instruments in accordance with DIN VDE 0701 and 0702 and interpreting measurement results. Systematic troubleshooting of devices, describing tests according to DIN VDE 0701 and 0702 (test steps, limit values) and documenting repair work.
Lab Objectives
The lab aims to give students the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out electrical safety tests on portable and fixed electrical equipment in accordance with DIN VDE 0701/0702. Using simulators of appliances representative of protection classes I, II and III, real testing and electrical diagnostic situations after installation, maintenance or repair are simulated. In particular, students learn to:
- Carry out tests in accordance with DIN standards and BGV A3 safety regulations;
- Identify safety parameters such as protective conductor resistance, insulation, leakage current and touch current;
- Recognise and classify active and passive measures;
- Analyse simulated faults and understand the causes of electrical non-compliance.
Educational Aims
The lab is designed to develop: Technical Skills
- Correct use of certified measuring instruments, including multifunction testers with digital interfaces and touchscreens;
- Development of manual and automatic test procedures on various simulated appliances (iron, washing machine, PC, radio, etc.);
- Simulation of the most common faults to build diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of Standards and Documentation
- Interpretation of the DIN VDE 0701/0702 technical standards and their practical application in post-repair checks or periodic inspections;
- Recording and documenting test results, including through software and devices with digital storage;
- An informed approach to workplace safety management, with reference to the German occupational health and safety regulations. Professional Preparation
- Training immediately applicable in professional contexts that require electrical safety certification, in the residential, industrial and medical fields;
- Up-to-date knowledge of modern testing technologies, using devices with USB and RFID interfaces and automatic archiving software.
Conclusion
The “Device Testing” training package is a cornerstone of electrical safety training. Through a complete mix of theory, realistic simulations and hands-on work with instruments, the lab prepares students to ensure regulatory compliance and personal safety, covering every stage of the technical inspection of electrical appliances. The integration of digital resources, practical exercises on several simulated appliances and the use of professional instruments ensures concrete, up-to-date preparation that can be put to use in the world of work and in advanced technical maintenance.
