About this solution
Learning objectives
- Structure of electrical systems
- Risks due to overload, short circuit and overvoltage; assessment of the protective elements required.
- Assessment of the different protective measures in TN-C, TN-C-S, TN-S, TT and IT network systems
- Protective measures according to DIN VDE 0100
- Effects of electric current on the human body, safety regulations and rescue measures in the event of accidents.
- Measures against the risk of electric shock in accordance with current directives.
- Determining the heart current factor
Lab Objectives
The main aim of the “Protective Measures” lab is to explore in depth the regulations, devices and techniques used to ensure the safety of people and electrical installations. In particular, students will be guided in understanding the following aspects:
- Analysis of the theoretical and practical principles of electrical protection against both direct and indirect contact;
- Study of the different network architectures (TN, TT, IT) and their respective protection and disconnection methods;
- Development of skills in using professional measuring instruments to check electrical safety conditions;
- Experimentation with electrical separation, earthing, equipotential bonding, residual current protection, fuses, RCDs and isolation transformers.
Educational Aims
This lab enables students to acquire complete theoretical and practical training in electrical protective measures:
- Theoretical knowledge: CEI/VDE standards, effects of current on the human body, the difference between basic protection and fault protection, the meaning of touch and step voltages;
- Practical skills: simulating electrical faults, using a digital multimeter, checking the tripping thresholds of RCDs, assessing safety conditions in different network configurations;
- Developing critical thinking: analysing measurement results, recognising risks, choosing the most suitable protective devices for the context;
- Professional preparation: skills directly transferable to the design, installation and maintenance of residential and industrial electrical systems, in compliance with current regulations. The lab also allows complex scenarios to be assessed, such as changes in earth resistance, the simulation of SELV/PELV systems and the use of protective devices with multiple loads.
Conclusion
The training package dedicated to “Protective Measures” is a fundamental element in the education of electrical technicians and professionals. Through a safe, simulated and realistic learning environment, students can understand and test in practice the principles governing electrical safety, developing technical awareness and operational responsibility. The lab offers complete, systematic and highly applicable training, making it an indispensable tool in electrical training pathways and in sectors related to installation safety. This solution includes technology systems that help foster inclusion and equal opportunities through the use of innovative teaching methods. Designed to promote active and collaborative learning.
