Automation Lab – Distribution Board and VDE/IEC Testing

Real installations with a distribution board: choice of protective devices (RCD/SPD), initial and periodic tests to DIN VDE 0100-600/0105 and IEC 60364-6, loop/insulation measurements, fault diagnosis and commissioning reports.
MePA code: ABX-TP2613-2

About this solution

Learning objectives

Architecture of the public electricity grid / incoming supply network system Architecture of the consumer installation Choosing suitable protective measures for a consumer installation Choosing and using measuring and test instruments according to DIN VDE 0100-600 and interpreting the measured values Carrying out initial and periodic tests of electrical installations and drawing up a test report. Building a distribution board

Lab Objectives

  • Acquire skills in installing and testing real domestic electrical systems.
  • Understand how the main protective devices work and trip: RCDs, circuit breakers, surge protection.
  • Simulate and diagnose real electrical faults (short circuits, insulation faults, loop impedance, etc.).
  • Carry out electrical safety measurements according to DIN VDE 0100-600, DIN VDE 0105-100, IEC 60364-6 and BGV A3.
  • Draw up test reports and document testing and maintenance activities.
  • Design and carry out flush-mounted installations to professional standards.

Educational Aims

  • Train future qualified technicians and electricians able to work in real settings with complete electrical distribution and protection systems.
  • Develop full awareness of technical and safety standards, electrical risks and the countermeasures to adopt.
  • Encourage an integrated approach to fault diagnosis and preventive maintenance, through practical tests on true-to-life installations.
  • Teach the correct use of measuring instruments and the interpretation of the values obtained, promoting precision and technical responsibility.
  • Encourage skills in planning, testing, customer advice and drawing up the related technical documentation.

Conclusion

The “Safety of electrical systems and devices” lab provides an immersive and highly vocational learning experience. Thanks to the modular structure of the BST® system and the wealth of instruments and scenarios that can be simulated, students develop advanced practical skills and a full command of electrical safety regulations. The training fosters operational autonomy, precision in measurement and documentation, and solid preparation for entering technical and installation work.
