Automation Lab – ICT Infrastructure for Smart Buildings (BST®)

A lab on ICT networks and systems for smart buildings: Cat.7/Ethernet cabling, PoE/VLAN, TV distribution (DVB-S/T/C, SCR), VoIP/SIP/DECT. Installation, testing/fault diagnosis, terminal/gateway configuration and remote management with the BST® platform.
MePA code: ABX-TP2010

About this solution

Objectives

1. Installing and testing communication infrastructure

Students learn to design and build communication systems according to customer requirements, integrating components such as satellite systems, telephone networks and Cat.7 structured cabling. Fault simulators make it possible to check installations and troubleshoot problems.

2. Becoming familiar with network and telephony technologies

By using devices such as the FRITZ!Box, analogue, ISDN and SIP/VoIP telephones and video phones, students acquire skills in configuring and integrating communication systems in home and business networks.

3. Analysing and solving system problems

The lab includes advanced diagnostic tools such as LAN network testers, DVB-S/DVB-C analysers and RF signal generators, useful for identifying faults in cabling, devices or signal transmission.

4. Simulating real integrated communication scenarios

The modular BST® configuration allows complex environments to be created, with power management, fault injection and real connections between telecommunication devices and digital networks, providing immersive, hands-on training.

Educational Aims

1. Developing practical skills in networks and telecommunications

Working directly with real devices and simulators gives students a solid technical foundation, teaching them cabling, installation and system configuration according to industry standards.

2. Integrating different systems and protocols

Students learn to manage various communication protocols (DVB, ISDN, VoIP, Ethernet, PoE) and make them work together coherently in a single network, tackling issues of compatibility, power supply and remote control.

3. Promoting preventive maintenance and problem solving

Using tools such as LAN testers and spectrum analysers, students develop the ability to prevent faults, detect errors and optimise the performance of communication systems.

4. Preparing for digital systems, web and smart interfaces

The devices feature web interfaces, management software and Android integration, preparing students to use interactive dashboards and manage communication networks remotely.
