Sicily Region Call 2026 – Multisensory Classrooms for Inclusion and Wellbeing

The Regione Siciliana (Sicilian Regional Government), through its Department of Education and Vocational Training, has published Circular no. 0011 of 30/03/2026 for the creation of multisensory classrooms (Snoezelen Rooms) in first-cycle schools.

The initiative aims to promote emotional wellbeing, strengthen school inclusion and develop students’ cognitive and interpersonal skills.

Purpose of the notice

The call aims to support schools in creating innovative environments to:

• foster pupils’ emotional wellbeing and behavioural regulation;
• support the inclusion of students with disabilities, autism, ADHD and SEN (special educational needs);
• improve attention, concentration and participation;
• promote controlled, personalised sensory experiences;
• strengthen inclusive and personalised teaching.

Multisensory classrooms are spaces designed to stimulate the senses (sight, hearing, touch, etc.) and encourage relaxation, communication and relational experiences.

Funding available

The call provides:

• €2,500,000 in total;
• up to €55,000 per project;
• payment: 80% advance + 20% balance.

Eligible applicants

The following may apply:

• first-cycle state schools (Comprehensive Schools, primary school directorates, lower secondary schools);
• schools based in the Sicily Region;
• schools with spaces suitable for setting up a multisensory classroom.

Each school may submit only one application.

Project requirements

Projects must include:

• fitting out the multisensory classroom with dedicated technology;
• teacher training;
• personalised, hands-on teaching activities;
• monitoring of results;
• a final event presenting the results to the school community.

Eligible costs

The following can be funded:

• multisensory furniture and equipment (lights, fibre optics, tactile panels, audio);
• sensory materials and communication tools;
• teacher training costs (at least 20 teachers involved);
• adaptations to building systems (within the set limits);
• staff costs for extracurricular activities.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted:

• exclusively by PEC (certified email);
• to: [email protected];
• with all the required documentation (Annexes A, B, C, etc.);
• with the mandatory digital signature of the School Head.

Selection criteria

Applications will be funded:

• on a first-come, first-served basis;
• in the chronological order in which the PECs are received;
• until the available resources run out.

Deadline

• 24 April 2026 at 23:59:59

Project timeline

• completion of activities: 31 August 2027;
• final reporting: 31 October 2027.
