Schools get the go-ahead for classroom cooling: 6,342 schools funded with over €3,100 each

Classroom cooling: €20 million for 6,342 state schools

With Directorial Decree no. 574 of 18 September 2026, the Ministry of Education and Merit approved the list of schools eligible for the grant for cooling and thermal comfort in classrooms, provided for by Ministerial Decree no. 179 of 2 September 2026. Each eligible school receives the same amount, to be spent on devices that make learning spaces more comfortable in the hot months.

Status of the measure

Applications have closed and the list of beneficiaries has been published: the measure is in progress and schools can purchase and install the devices. The date to remember is 31 March 2027, by which work and reporting must be completed.

Amounts

• €3,153.57 for each eligible school, the same for all;
• €19,999,940.94 in total, spread over three years: €7,427,354.72 of 2025 carry-over funds, €10,000,000 for 2026 and €2,572,586.22 for 2027;
• a 70% advance (€2,207.50) paid in 2026, with the balance after reporting.

Who benefits

The state schools that responded to the public notice of 4 September 2026 by submitting an application on SIDI between 7 and 11 September. Of the 6,354 applications received, 6,342 were admitted; 12 were excluded as ineligible. To find out whether your school is among the beneficiaries, check the list attached to the decree, below.

What can be purchased

The grant covers the purchase, installation and commissioning of devices for cooling and microclimatic comfort in classrooms.

Before ordering, it is worth checking that each item falls within the costs allowed by the decree and that the classroom’s electrical system can handle the extra load: the amount is fixed, so the choice of device and the cost of installation need to be weighed together.

Deadlines

• applications on SIDI: from 7 to 11 September 2026 (closed);
• list of beneficiaries: Directorial Decree no. 574 of 18 September 2026;
• work completed and documentation uploaded to the MONITOR/PIMER platform: by 31 March 2027.

Schools that fail to report by the deadline must repay the full amount received.
