Description
Environmental citizenship: up to €63,000 for outdoor projects
With public notice ref. no. 239372 of 12 October 2026, the Ministry of Education and Merit is funding extracurricular teaching projects in civic education and citizenship focused on respect for parks, nature and public property. Projects may include the redevelopment and clean-up of outdoor spaces – the playground, a green area, a park near the school – to turn them into outdoor learning environments, also in partnership with local authorities, associations and foundations.
The measure is part of the National Programme «Scuola e competenze» 2021-2027 (ESF+, specific objective ESO4.6, action ESO4.6.A3 «Green transition») and uses resources from Ministerial Decree no. 33 of 24 February 2026.
Who can apply
State schools and non-commercial state-recognised private schools in the first and second cycles throughout Italy. The modules are aimed at students in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary school.
What can be funded
- environmental citizenship and sustainable development initiatives;
- pathways on the environment and legality;
- care and protection of the environment and the local area, civic education;
- adoption or restoration of green spaces, public places, parts of the heritage and disused school areas.
The project consists of one or more 30- or 60-hour modules (up to 20 participants), with an expert and a tutor present together and, optionally, an additional staff member.
Amounts
The ceiling depends on the number of students enrolled on SIDI at the date of the notice:
- up to 200 students: €16,800;
- 201 to 800 students: €45,000;
- over 800 students: €63,000.
Projects are managed on a standard-cost basis: €70 per hour for the expert and €30 for the tutor, €5.10 per hour per participant for management (teaching materials and consumables, rental of small equipment, travel, staff), and the canteen as an optional item (€70 per participant for the 30-hour module, €140 for the 60-hour one).
How to apply
- generate the CUP (Unique Project Code) using template no. 2603004 «Cittadinanza ambientale – ESO4.6.A3»;
- state the resolutions of the Teachers’ Board and the School Council (or inclusion in the PTOF); if these are not yet available, a commitment by the School Head to obtain them before the funds are entered in the budget is sufficient;
